SBC24: Observations and Motions

What happens at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention? Although I have been the pastor of an SBC church for seven years, SBC24 was my first annual meeting. In this video, I share some of my general observations, followed by my take on some of the motions that were made.

Although most motions are either ruled out of order or are referred to committees, these were among those debated at the convention:

  1. Censure of Al Mohler, Bart Barber, and Ben Mandrell (failed)
  2. Request the president form a fact-finding committee to review the work of the Abuse Reform and Implementation Task Force (failed)
  3. Review of NAMB’s legal activities between 2017 and 2024 (failed)
  4. Abolish the ERLC (failed)
  5. Remove pledges of allegiance to earthly kingdoms from all Convention activities (failed)
