Everything we believe depends on the death and resurrection of Jesus. If Jesus rose from the dead, Christianity is the one true religion. If He did not, we’ve been duped.
Before we discuss the resurrection, though, we need to discuss His death. After all, what good is a resurrection without a death?
So, did Jesus really die? I think we have at least four pieces of evidence that He did.
1. The Gospel writers claim that He died
2. Experienced Roman soldiers declared Him dead
3. The Disciples knew He was dead
4. His body was prepared for burial
We also have to consider the question of why He died.
He died to be the substitionary atonement–paying the debt that we owed to God the Father.
