How tightly do we have to hold to our salvation in order to keep it? The writer of Hebrews states that we are of Christ’s house “if we hold fast the confidence and rejoicing of the hope firm to the end” (Hebrews 3:6). What does this mean? Do we earn our salvation only if we remain faithful until the end?
No, I don’t think that is what the author of Hebrews is saying. He is stating that if we truly believe, we will remain faithful, at least to a certain degree. We act on what we believe–just like the Israelites of old. They refused to go into the Promised Land because they did not believe God.
