Southern Baptist Convention 2026

On June 9-10, 2025, the Southern Baptist Convention met in Orlando, Florida. Probably the most discussed aspect of this convention was the Truth & Unity Amendment proposed by Al Mohler, which, if passed the second time, would amend the SBC Constitution with the following verbiage: a church in friendly cooperation

“6. does not act to affirm, appoint, or endorse a woman serving in the office or function of a pastor/elder/overseer, specifically preaching to the assembled congregation.”

Standing Rule 6 was suspended by majority vote, which allowed the amendment to be brought to the floor this year, rather than sending it to the Executive Committee for review. The amendment passed with 74.66% this year and will have to pass with 2/3 again next year in Indianapolis for it to become part of the constitution.

The SBC, of course, cannot mandate anything for SBC churches. It can only determine which churches are in “friendly cooperation.” In other words, which churches can send money to the Cooperative Program.

In this video, I discuss the Truth & Unity Amendment as well as other highlights of the 2026 convention.
