In this video I describe what is known as the “unpardonable sin” or the “unforgivable sin.”
Simply put, the unpardonable sin is hardening your heart to the point that you willfully reject the obvious work of the Spirit through Jesus.
It appears in three places in the Bible:
Matthew 12:31-32
Mark 3:28-29
Luke 12:10-12
Here is the Matthew passage:
Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. (Matthew 12:31)
The Pharisees were watching Jesus cast out demons and claimed that His power came from Beelzebub rather than the Holy Spirit.
Jesus pointed out that it would be impossible to cast out demons using demonic power. Therefore, His power came from the Holy Spirit.
These people saw what Jesus was doing and attributed it to the Devil rather than the Holy Spirit–that is the blasphemy against the Spirit, which is the unpardonable sin.
Should I be worried that I did or might commit the unpardonable sin? No, I don’t think so. It is not mentioned anywhere else in the Bible, which would be likely if it was so dangerous and common.
Can a believer commit the unpardonable sin? No, because it is willful refusal to accept the work of the Spirit through Jesus. A true believer believes.
Can I commit the unpardonable sin accidentally? No–it is a willful action.
